Search boxes appear on user profile pages, on the user index page, and on the grandaddy of all searches: the advanced search page. They all function similarly: * can be used to match anything (wildcard), and any keywords you enter separated by a space are searched for in that order. When searching for files, only the filename will be taken into account, not the contents of the file. For more precise search capabilities, try the advanced search page.

Note about the advanced search page: Not only can you do specific searches on just files or users - ex: "Find all text files with more than 100 downloads and smaller than 1 MB, sorted alphabetically..." - you can limit the scope of the search to variables in the opposite category. What this means is given the example above, you can apply futher restrictions from the user category, such as "...limiting the scope to usernames starting with a K that have more than 10 referrals".
