To ensure the legitimacy of your signup request, an image verification box is used. The whole idea is to ensure that whomever is trying to make an account is human, and not a computer program. It prevents spammers from creating massive amounts of accounts, slowing down the system for the fleshy users. If you cannot read the numbers in the image, refresh the page for a new image that may be easier to decipher. If you still can't read it, try again.
